How many brides do two weddings? Not many, and not to same person. This January wedding preceded the planned August wedding. Ricci’s grandmother, Maria Schulze was diagnosed with terminal cancer and she wanted her to be at the wedding. This was a warm-up for the Ricci and Shawn. The wedding evolved into a complete wedding. I’ll have to give it to them, they do know how to party. The after hours I hear were epic. Something about a neighbor, a little booze consumed, a crash, father and son bonding (Irish style). Skagit County Sheriff’s Officers made a social call. Now those would have been great photos.
The wedding location was at the Schulze Tree Farm and the story behind it is humbling. Maria and Julius Schulze carved out a farm in the rugged Upper Skagit valley. I had a chance to hear some of those stories – building a house out of scavenged materials and digging a well by hand. This is the true frontier spirit with hard work, determination and love – anything is possible. Maria did attend the wedding in August, defying her doctors and any higher powers.
